Paediatric Feeding and AAC Clinic

Progress one bite at a time

We help children with complex medical conditions enjoy family meals safely, and we help children who are non-speaking take part more fully at home, at school, and with friends.

Care for children with the most complex needs

Chew and Chat focuses on children in our communities with complex medical histories. That includes children whose brain difference causes weakness or difficulty coordinating the muscles used to chew, drink, swallow, and speak clearly.

Our speech-language pathologists have experience with neurological conditions, developmental disabilities, rare genetic conditions, and other medical diagnoses, including:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Autism
  • Cortical visual impairment
  • Down syndrome
  • Angelman syndrome
  • Extreme prematurity
  • Hypoxic brain injury
  • Rett syndrome
  • Fragile X
  • Epilepsy
  • Global developmental delay

How we can help

Feeding and swallowing

Safe textures, stronger chewing and drinking, and meals that are shorter and more enjoyable.

Motor speech

Assessment and treatment for dysarthria, childhood apraxia of speech, early babble, and speaking with a Passy Muir Valve.

AAC

Speech-generating devices, switches, eye gaze, literacy, and low-tech options that work alongside speech.

Autism

A neuroaffirming approach to communication and responsive feeding, with your child’s comfort first.

What the first visits look like

  1. Tell us about your child

You will receive an intake form, a cost estimate, a PHIPA consent, and our cancellation policy before the first session.

  2. Come for an assessment

A first feeding visit is a bedside swallow exam. Speech and AAC visits start with an assessment so treatment matches your child.

  3. Practise at home

Parents feed and communicate with their child every day. We teach strategies that are practical for your family.
